Volunteer & Caretaker
Roschell Santee is a proud mother of 3: Shantel, Rachel, & Frank. She is the proud wife of former Houston Astros Pitcher & Basketball Hall of Famer Robert Charles Santee. She has 5 magnificent grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. For the past 11 years, she has been working on ways to help educate and elevate women of domestic violence.
“Some women are born into violent home backgrounds, others are placed in harm’s way due to little or no education, and then there are others with just low self esteem,” Santee says. “We should never look down on anyone, unless we are helping them up and with being said. My goal is to help other young and older women not to feel as though they have to walk the walk of shame. We are to educate our young women at an early age that like James Brown said without an education you might as well be dead. We have created a small prayer group that allows women and children to call in and express their pain while at the same time sharing the word of God to give them strength, sometimes until the sun rises.”
Santee and her husband are active in the community, feeding the homeless every Tuesday and twice a month on Sundays. She is a self-profesed “prayer warrior” and the church announcer at Holy Trinity Deliverance Church. She volunteers once a month at the Star of Hope Women’s Shelter in Houston, Texas with prayer and collecting clothing for those in need. Santee also cares for her 79-year old mother as well as her sister, who struggles with a mental condition.
“You see, I give all glory to God for allowing me to be used as a vessel to glorify him,” Santee says. “Does it get hard sometimes? Yes, and I just ask God for another little nudge to finish my race.”
