Thank you for attending the Annual Celebration of Women Luncheon. In the new millennium, the glass ceiling has continued to break and women are now on the cutting edge of everything.

Over 60 percent of college degrees awarded in the U.S. every year are earned by women. In fact, women are more likely than men to get a high school diploma as well, and the numbers are only expected to rise in the coming years.

The two highest IQs ever recorded, through standardized testing, both belong to women. Women currently hold 17% of Congressional and Senate seats and 18% of gubernatorial positions in the U.S. Approximately 14% of active members in the U.S. armed forces today are women. In 1950, women comprised less than 2% of the U.S. military.

As you can see, from business and politics to film and education, women are everywhere making things happen! Today, we are proud to honor women from Louisiana and in Louisiana who are doing great things in their communities and throughout the country.

Sincerely,

Gisele Haralson

The Occasion

A Celebration of Women is the creation of educator, author, screenwriter, and producer Gisele Haralson.

It was my desire to bring together women of all walks of life to celebrate each other. To uplift, inspire, and motivate.

I envisioned a gathering of minds in regard to life, equality, and career. While building on the successes and accomplishments of women all over the world; it is my mission to draw attention to the many roles that women play in our society and the tremendous impact we have on families, businesses, communities and the overall well-being of mankind.

My research, studies and experiences have revealed the strong resilience of women of all races and backgrounds. The women we honor and recognize today have thrived in their respective businesses, careers, and everyday life.

With the abundance of opportunities available today, even modest ones, women have been able to stand strong, lift their families out of poverty, start businesses, escape violent situations, enhance their knowledge and expertise, better care for themselves, their families and their communities. Our impact is felt far beyond what is present to the naked eye.

We have emerged as leaders and catalysts for change in our communities, workplace, government, and A Celebration of Women is a way to unite our voices by truly encouraging, embracing, linking, and uplifting each other. But more than anything; I want to teach our children the importance of giving back and caring for others. The mission of this event is to celebrate and honor women for their achievement and accomplishments, but more than anything, to share our experiences and visions for a better society for all women and children.  Child Development Institute represents the non-profit division of A Celebration of Women.

She has studied and researched issues that relate to women and children and these issues have been the driving force behind her work.

As the creator of A Celebration of Women, it was her desire to bring together women of all walks of life to celebrate each other.  Her experiences and connections have revealed the strong resilience of women of all races and backgrounds and how we have emerged as leaders and catalysts for change in our communities, work place, and government. The event is held annually in March during National Women’s month with proceeds from the event have gone to charities like Baton Rouge Area Food Bank and Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge.  Another major goal of this event is to help young people develop the spirit of giving.
