Dr. Sharon Franklin was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She has been married to her lifelong partner and soul mate Michael A. Franklin for 34 years. To this union, they were blessed with four children ShaReeka Franklin, Stacy Dunn, Anthony Cage and Allison Albert. They are the proud grandparents of 14 grandchildren. Dr. Franklin is fortunate to have two sets of wonderful parents–Bishop Eugene and Yvonne Harris; and Mr. James and Billie Christophe.
It was her childhood dream of becoming a Cosmetologist. For her the dream started when she witness her father, who also was a cosmetologist, turn her mother’s hair from “black” to “red”. Impressed by her father’s ability to do such a magic trick, she wanted to be able to do the same. This experience was the fire that ignited Dr. Franklin’s curiosity. This was the beginning of the journey to exploration and discovery.
Dr. Franklin attended McKinley Senior High School in Baton Rouge, LA, where she received an academic scholarship. Dr. Franklin attended Southern University A & M College Baton Rouge and pursued a degree in Accounting. Although, this degree choice was at the strong encouragement of her parents – her love for doing hair continued to grow and she use all her spare time cultivating her craft.
Dr. Franklin attended Southern University for two and a half years, pursued drafting at Delta School of Business; and out of her love for people and wanting to see them succeed, she pursued nursing at American Medical School. While in pursuit of her different endeavors, she continued to do hair part-time. Dr. Franklin’s love for hair continued to linger in her spirit and would NOT go away. Dr. Franklin then made the decision to enroll in beauty school at James Frazier Louisiana Vo-Technical College. The long awaited dream of becoming a cosmetologist finally came to fruition along with the vison and purpose for her life. As a result Dr. Franklin developed and solidify a solid foundation in the field of cosmetology. Eventually becoming a licensed Professional Cosmetologist and Barber Stylist with local and national recognition.
Dr. Franklin also recognizes that education has been a strong component and is one of the keys to her success. Therefore, she continues to educate herself by staying abreast of the various and changing trends in the cosmetology industry. She continues to educate herself with continuing education courses, participating in seminars and attending local and national conventions. Dr. Franklin has acquired several degrees to her credit – she has attended Dudley Cosmetology University and the National Beauty Culturist League Inc. where she received her Bachelor’s Degree, Masters I and II and Doctorate (DPC) as well as a Post Doctorate Degree. She once served as an instructor with the National Beauty Culturist League; and a Platform Artist and Ambassador with Dudley University.
To date – Dr. Sharon Franklin has made many noteworthy accomplishments as a professional cosmetologist. Over 30 years she has served a wide variety of clients from various ethnicities and backgrounds. Dr. Franklin has successfully owned and operated The Award Winning Salt and Pepper Perfection Hair Care Salon. Provided mentorship training to other individuals desiring to either work in the business or just become knowledgeable about hair and/or hair care products. In addition, she takes time to give back to her community by donating to many charitable organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Sickle Cell Foundation, Kidney Foundation, Homeless Shelters and feeding families in need. Dr. Franklin also gives back by providing no cost services to her community, associations, organizations, and senior citizens. Dr. Franklin and her husband, on several occasions, have opened their home to aspiring young adults in pursuit of their education.
Dr. Franklin is a member of several national organizations such as Youth for Beauty, the National Beauty
Culturist League Inc., Louisiana State Beautician and Barber Association and Theta Nu Sigma National Sorority (Chi Chapter). She serves as the chairperson for the Hair Designers Guild and is the Assistant Education Director of L.S.B.B.A. She is a member of the Order of Eastern Star Local Chapter Stars of Integrity #1095, were she serves as Conductress. She is the Founder and President of Baton Rouge Beauty Professionals Local #111.
To add to this long list of accomplishments, she also finds time to travel Nationally and Internationally educating others in the industry or aspiring cosmetologists to become their best. Dr. Franklin is a recognized National Educator for Umoja Visions Products. As an faithful, active member of Antioch Full Gospel Church in Baton Rouge, LA., Dr. Franklin serves as a the Director to the Youth and Young Adult Ministry.
Lastly with all of her notable accomplishments Dr. Sharon Franklin has achieved – she attributes everything to God and gives him all the glory! As the bible states, “…For unto whom much is given, much is required…” Luke 12:48. With God’s leadership, she has taken on the responsibility of this God given gift and does it with excellence, humility and grace.
