LYNN FARRIS

Lynn Farris received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from USL (now ULL) and her Master of Social Work Degree from Southern University at New Orleans. She has been employed with the Department of Children and Family Services for 20 years and was a part-time Psychology and Sociology instructor with the University of Phoenix for four years.

She was initiated in Nu Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in 1991 and has served as Chapter Hostess, Corresponding Secretary, Vice-President and President. She currently holds the office of Grants Coordinator in Nu Gamma Omega.

She has served the South Central Region of AKA in various capacities which include Louisiana State Connection Coordinator, Interim Southern Louisiana Cluster Coordinator and General Chairman of the 81st South Central Regional Conference where 3,400 sorors were in attendance. She currently serves as Executive Coordinator to the South Central Regional Director.

She has served on the International Heritage Committee, International SET/ SITE Committee and now I Team/E Team which is responsible for chapter evaluations and hazing investigations. She has been appointed by three International Presidents of Alpha Kappa Alpha to serve in this capacity.

Lynn was a member of the Junior League of Baton Rouge for five years where she served on the Hollydays Steering Committee for four years. In her second year in the League, she was appointed as the Hollydays Silent Auction Chairman which grossed over $40,000 in profit under her leadership.

She has been a keynote speaker at AKA chapter Founders’ Days and has conducted Leadership/Sisterly Relations Workshops for various chapters throughout the South Central Region.

In 2013, she received the MLK Award for Community Service from Xi Nu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and in 2015, she received the Citizen of the Year Award from Xi Nu Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

She is a proud member of the Greater King David Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. John E. Montgomery, II where she serves as the Assistant Secretary of Usher Ministry #2, former President and founder of the Greater King David Single’s Ministry, member of the Scholarship Committee, Church Anniversary Chairman and Director of Social Services. She also coordinated the church’s first Ministry Recruitment Day.
