CONSTANCE R. SAIZON

Constance Saizon serves as the pastor of Hughes United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, and St. Landry United Methodist Church in Gonzales.

Formerly the pastor at Peoples United Methodist Church in New Orleans, she arrived in the Baton Rouge District as a result of Katrina rendering her church building and home unusable and destroying all of her material possessions.

She hails from Gulfport, Mississippi, graduated Xavier University of New Orleans, and Mississippi Course of Study School at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi  (an extension of Candler School of Theology at Emory University).

She is a widow and the mother of two adult daughters, Courtni  (New York) and Kelli (Atlanta, GA).

For two years Pastor Saizon toured with a play which raised awareness and spoke out against child abuse.

After Katrina, God heightened Pastor Saizon’s spiritual gift of humor to serve as a coping mechanism.  Out of the disaster came a Christian comedy ministry wherein she uplifts Godly principles through comedy and occasionally tells her “storm” story and how she, with God’s help, was able to overcome and claim victory.  Several  newspapers wrote articles about her and one newspaper appropriately titled her laughter ministry “Travelin’ Light” (because she laid her burdens down).

She recently published her first book entitled PASTORIZED which highlights the struggles and strife of her life, gives God all the glory for all He has done for her and lets other know that if God saw her through, then He can do it for them, too.

Her favorite scriptures are:

Romans 8:28 – All things (not many things, not a few things, not some things, but all things) work together for good for those who love the Lord and are called according to his purpose.

Psalm 23 – (paraphrased) As long as I allow the Lord to be my Shepherd, I shall not want for anything that I need.

She is a member, board member or officer of the following organizations/ministries:

    • Board Member  – Livingston Parish Council on Aging
    • President – Church Women United of Baton Rouge
    • Member – Louisiana Women in Ministry (LAWIM)
    • Board member & Spiritual Advisor – Sisters Network, Inc. and Sisters Supporting Sisters (cancer survivor group)
    • Member/officer – Martin Luther King, Jr. Task Force, Denham Springs
    • Member, Kiwanis and AARP

Pastor Saizon knows that God has a plan for her life and even though she may not understand all of His ways, she truly knows and believes that FATHER KNOWS BEST!
